Astley Burf Outdoor Adventure Centre has benefited from a funding award from the
New Opportunities Fund PE & Sport Project.
The £324,400 grant has enabled the authority to replace 3 old buildings with
new ‘state of the art’ log cabins along with ICT equipment, provided
by Research Machines.
The application required the authority to demonstrate development in several key
outcomes, amongst which were:
- Improve physical education and sport in schools.
- Higher standards across whole school through PE and school sport.
-
Better opportunities to increase levels of physical activity.
We have addressed these issues through the application, and in order to meet the
criteria we are endeavouring to implement 3 new structured activities at
Astley Burf. These activities are:
- Physical Activity Testing.
This is a short activity test on ‘arrival day’ and the same test on
‘leaving’ day. This will hopefully highlight to pupils the advantages
of daily physical exercise.
This will introduce pupils to a net/wall game which is very easy to continue and
develop within the school curriculum as an Out of School Hours Learning activity.
Pupils and staff will work with the TOP Outdoors cards to engage in problem solving
activities, which again would be useful to develop in or beyond the school curriculum.
In order to satisfy the Big Lottery Fund’s monitoring and evaluation requirements,
we are also requesting completion of evaluation sheets for staff and youngsters
involved. Along with an analysis of the physical activity testing, the summary
of these evaluation sheets will be published on the website every half term.
